Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro headset is still months away from launch, but according to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, there might already be trouble on the horizon. In a recent report, Kuo suggests that Apple may have canceled a low-cost version of the Vision Pro, leaving potential customers disappointed.
Previous leaks had hinted at a cheaper edition of the Vision Pro, set to launch in 2025, to cater to users who couldn’t afford the hefty $3,499 price tag of the base model. However, Kuo’s report indicates that these plans may have been abandoned altogether. While the analyst doesn’t provide a specific reason for the cancellation, he notes that without a more affordable option, Apple will have to reduce the price of the Vision Pro or face lower than expected sales.
Kuo’s report also suggests that shipments of the original Vision Pro may fall well below the anticipated 1 million units. He estimates that Apple may ship only 400,000 to 600,000 units at most. This aligns with previous predictions from other sources. Additionally, Kuo mentions that the Vision Pro 2, a second-generation version of the headset, may not enter production until the first half of 2027, leaving the original device without an update for three years.
Despite the setbacks, Kuo acknowledges that the Vision Pro has the potential to provide an exceptional user experience. Apple is renowned for its high-quality products, but if the pricing issue isn’t resolved, all efforts may go to waste. Kuo also questions the need for such a product, which could further impact its adoption. However, he remains optimistic that the Vision Pro could become Apple’s “next star product,” albeit taking longer than expected.
As we await further updates from Apple, it’s crucial to consider the needs of customers who find the $3,499 price tag out of reach for a mixed reality headset. Hopefully, Apple will address these concerns and find a way to make the Vision Pro more accessible to a wider audience. Only time will tell if the Vision Pro lives up to its potential and becomes a game-changer in the market.
