Remember when Intel announced its new Arc GPUs over a year ago? Among them was the highly anticipated A580 mid-range GPU. However, it seems that this graphics card has vanished into thin air. VideoCardz recently pointed out that Intel has seemingly ditched the A580, leaving many wondering what happened.
The A580 was unveiled alongside the A770, A750, and A380 as part of Intel’s incoming Arc GPUs. While the other three graphics cards have become actual products, the A580 has yet to make an appearance. Despite Intel’s recent Innovation event, where one would expect any announcements regarding the A580, Team Blue remained silent about its existence.
Intel hasn’t mentioned the A580 since its initial revelation over a year ago, essentially sweeping it under the rug. This raises the question: has Intel quietly canceled the A580?
At this point, it’s highly likely that the A580 has been canceled. If Intel still had plans to release this GPU, they would have taken the opportunity to confirm it at their recent Innovation event. With the upcoming release of Battlemage graphics cards, Intel’s second-generation of Arc products, it seems that the first-gen of Arc, including the A580, has reached its end.
It’s a shame that we won’t get to witness what a middle-of-the-road Alchemist offering like the A580 could have achieved. Based on the specifications Intel provided, the A580 wouldn’t have been too far off from the A750. It could have served as a more affordable option for gamers looking for a budget-friendly graphics card.
Perhaps the A580’s similarity to the A750 in terms of specs is the reason why Intel decided not to launch it. We can only speculate at this point, but it does seem odd that Intel has remained silent about the Alchemist GPU that never came to fruition. This misstep could be seen as embarrassing for the Arc range.
Now, all attention is focused on Battlemage, Intel’s upcoming second-generation Arc graphics cards. These are expected to debut around mid-2024 or slightly later. With such a rumored launch timeframe, there’s little room for any other releases at this point. However, we should keep in mind that launch dates can easily change, as we saw with Alchemist itself.
As we eagerly anticipate Battlemage, it’s disappointing to realize that we may never know what the A580 could have offered. Intel’s decision to remain tight-lipped about the GPU only adds to the mystery. Let’s hope that Battlemage lives up to the hype and delivers on the promises of Intel’s Arc graphics card lineup.
