Sega has revealed new details about the upcoming game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth during its latest RGG Summit. The company released two lengthy trailers showcasing the game’s plot and story. Along with the trailers, Sega also announced the official release date for the game, which is set for January 26, 2024.
Previously, the game had a vague release window of “early 2024.” However, Sega surprised fans by announcing a specific release date that is earlier than anticipated. This means that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will launch on the same day as Tekken 8 and ahead of other highly anticipated RPGs such as Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Persona 3 Reload, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
A ten-minute story trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth revealed significant details about the game’s narrative. The trailer follows Ichiban, who travels to Honolulu City in search of his mother after losing his job and facing relationship troubles with Saeko. Additionally, it is revealed that Kiryu, a familiar character from the series, has been diagnosed with cancer but is actually in hiding, not dead. The trailer also hints at a thrilling story revolving around organized crime and features characters from previous games in the series.
The gameplay trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth showcases the game’s setting in Hawaii, which has been meticulously recreated with a dynamic weather system. The trailer confirms that the game is a turn-based RPG, similar to its predecessor, but also introduces a new element where Kiryu can temporarily fight enemies in real-time by awakening his fighting spirit. The job system and Poundmates, which were popular features in the previous game, also make a return. Players can obtain Poundmates by performing various jobs around Hawaii. Additionally, the trailer reveals a variety of quirky minigames, including being a bike courier, engaging in Sujimon battles, and exploring the world of online dating.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on January 26, 2024. Players eager to get a taste of the game can look forward to a demo included with this November’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
